It's all in the fit

Maternity clothes, by design, allow for your bump and make you look and feel great!

Comfort! If you're not feeling comfortable, it shows in your face and makes you grumpy.

Versatility! Maternity garments tend to be more versatile in their fit than normal clothes. Ruched sides and wraps enable maternity clothes to grow and shrink as you do so you can maintain a chic, fitted silhouette.

Washability! Maternity wear designers use quality fabrics that will wash and wear time after time.  They know you have fewer clothes during this time and your maternity items will be working hard.

do......

  • Buy your normal dress size - trust us! If you've gained a 'normal' amount of weight during your pregnancy, we've allowed for the changes in your body....
  • All t-shirts are not made equal! A maternity tee does not have to be a tent - it can fit you like a second skin and it will give you extra length through the front to prevent your belly making an unexpected debut!
  • Try on the many different types of maternity pants to see what is most suitable for you and talk to the team at your local maternity boutique - they're the experts and they will make your life more comfortable!
  • Support. Many SZABO Maternity tops and dresses with halter necks and shoestring straps come fitted with an internal band to give your bust shape and support.

do not......

  • Do not buy regular clothing two sizes larger to accommodate your bump.  You'll be swamped everywhere except your bump and end up looking enormous all over. Garments need to fit across the shoulders and through the hips to look good and feel comfortable.
  • Do not wait until late into your pregnancy to buy maternity clothes - buy early to get maximum use and value for money.  They'll be comfortable for a couple of months after the birth....
  • Do not wear your favourite 'normal' clothes throughout your pregnancy - they will stretch and may never return to the faithful old friends they were pre-pregnancy.

What lies beneath... other maternity items to consider

  • Buy at least 2 good maternity bras - one black, one white. Soft cup are recommended but it's a good idea to get the lowdown on what's best for you and your shape from an expert.
  • Knickers! Over or under - this is the question. When you get to the size where your normal knickers just aren't cutting it, you'll know your preference.
  • Tights! There are maternity stockings available but alternatively, specialised tights built to support your bottom, come up higher on your waist and when worn back to front, support your belly instead.
